The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has assured the Overlord of Gonja, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, of government’s resolve to restore peace in the Sawla-Bole area of the Savannah Region, which has recently witnessed violent clashes.
Addressing the media after a closed-door meeting at the Jakpa Palace in Damongo, the minister expressed concern over the loss of lives and destruction of property, stressing that dialogue and collaboration remain central to resolving the conflict.
“We have assured the Yagbonwura that we will do everything humanly possible to ensure peace is restored. But we need his cooperation and that of all stakeholders. Surely, what talking can solve, dance cannot solve,” he said.
Muntaka emphasised that government would honour its commitments from the discussions and urged all parties to uphold their part of the agreements to sustain peace.
The meeting comes in the wake of renewed tensions in Sawla-Bole, which have displaced several residents and raised fears of wider instability. The minister reaffirmed that restoring calm and maintaining law and order in the area remains a top priority for government.
